Community Connection: Spotlight on Face in the Mirror
WHAT THEY DO:
Face in the Mirror volunteers visit over 5,000 women, men and children annually in Valley hospitals and partnering organizations. Their goal is to provide to the person who is in their personal battle with cancer the essential touch that calms the spirit and touches the inner person, giving back hope and self-esteem. Their outreach of services strives to encourage and give hope in the midst of the patients’ personal storm by enhancing the outward beauty. This in turn contributes to the patient’s sense of well-being, giving back hope which aids in the healing process. Face in the Mirror volunteers visit the patients in their hospital rooms or while taking chemotherapy or radiation, and provide cosmetics, skin care products, a hand or foot massage, an attractive wig, hats and scarves to give the cancer patient a touch of beauty and confidence.
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
Your tax-deductible donations are the driving force for Face in the Mirror. The organization also offers a variety of rewarding volunteer opportunities such as helping to provide pampering to the patients as well as administrative help in the office. Their monthly “In Celebration of Life” teas, in which patients are celebrated with a beautifully prepared luncheon with special speakers, fun activities and makeovers; is another opportunity for caring volunteers to offer their time and support.
